About

This site is in honor of my grandparents and my mother who narrowly and heroically escaped atrocities committed by Ottoman Turkey during the Armenian massacre (genocide) around 1915. When charting the family history I discovered and uncovered much about the past and the history of this ancient people. History became alive to me and I realized that we cannot effectively carry on today unless we understand where we came from and how we got here. It’s fascinating.  I hope you will join with me as I learn from history and place the pieces of this gigantic puzzle into a recognizable picture.  Welcome aboard.

The Movie – Ararat – by Atom Egoyan is exactly what this site is all about. I’m not exactly thrilled with the way he wove into the story the battles of a particular family. To me it was only a distraction. But, Mr. Egoyan is an artist and that is how he created his movie.

I really like you site. I’m glad I found it. I just discovered AZAD-Hye. I am from Iraq. I have been in America since I was three yrs old. Luckily I still speak western Armenian but not as fluently. I am working on it, though. I will save this site…

Thank you Nairy. I’m glad you are enjoying the site.

We used to have relatives in Iraq. My mother went to Baghdad to visit them in her “Middle Eastern” tour around 1965. I understand that most of the Armenians in Iraq have had to leave after the U.S. invasion. For some reason Hussein protected them and after his removal they were vulnerable to anti-Christian attacks.
