ECtHR report on Turkey – worst human rights violator

Posted By shirley on February 3, 2010

The European Court of Human Rights in its annual report (released on January 28) found Turkey to be the worst violator of human rights among the 47 signatory states of the European Convention on Human Rights.  An article regarding this report can be found in Today’s Zaman – an English-language newspaper in Turkey.

A quick peruse of the newspaper’s website gives it a favorable review.  It seems progressive, open-minded and thought-provoking.  I wish it well.

The ECtHR report found that the most common human rights violation to be the denial of the right to a fair trial.  I’m glad that there are watch-dogs in the world keeping pressure on countries and their human rights violations. I hope and pray more can be done around the world.
