The Past is Not Forgotten

The Past is Not Forgotten, Only Built On

I picked fairy lanterns today
and wild sunflowers
growing under the scrub oak
and white Birch trees

Petals in the shape of bells
or a sunburst
Magenta and gold
Like food for the soul
a taste of goodness
Mingling between God and man

The mountain peaks and trees stood guard
offering shade from
unforgiving beams of sunshine

Fairy lanterns and sunflowers sit on my table
perched in a deep, blue bowl
Blue like the depths of the ocean
dark and brooding, yet
sprinkled by petals of brightness

Blue, bottom, ocean
past
pale, lavender, bright orange
bring the future
Bright like each new day

The past is built on
The future promises
Held together by the water
of what is today
